LJ001 Heart of Worship
(National Education)
Students will be brought to various places of worships which include Chinese Temple, Mosque, Church and Hindu Temple. They will learn the history of the religions in Singapore, their building architecture & features, the culture and practices. Students will learn to recognize the need for various religions and ethnics groups to co-exist through social cohesion and harmony, and to appreciate living in a multi religious society. Student will appreciate holistic learning through possible fusion with digital or visual arts, and journalistic writing skills.
LJ002 Uniquely Ethnic – People & Culture
(National Education)
Students will visit various ethnics associations to acquire knowledge on the history, culture, language, practices, various culinary delights and their unique costumes. They will learn about their fore-fathers and their influences from different ethnic, religious and cultural background that contributed to the diversity and richness of a multi-ethnic Singapore. With the fusion of digital or visual arts, and writing skills training, students will learn to use different forms of presentation methods to showcase their findings.
LJ003 Sulpture Walks
(Visual Arts)
Student will learn to appreciate public sculptures being displayed in various part of Singapore. They will learn the different art forms, materials, and texture used for each piece of art work; and they will also gain a better understanding of the historical significance of each sculpture. Local and international artists behind each sculpture will be introduced to engage the students in understanding the style and technique used that characterized each artist. During the trail, students will also get to experience basic wire sculpting.
LJ004 Rediscovering the East – Art & Heritage
(Media/Visual Arts & National Education)
Students will be brought on various walking trails of heritage foundations, such as the shop houses built in the 1900s by the early settlers. Along the trail in the heritage-rich Katong and Joo Chiat, students will observe the traditional elements found on the exterior and within the interior of an ethnic house, such as the different architectural style, the colorfully glazed wall tiles, relief panels of various designs, Chinese motifs such as dragons and phoenixes, and the Peranakan’s colorful wall tiles and interior design.
LJ005 Love Singapore, Love Gaia
(Environmental Awareness)
In this comprehensive learning journey, students will be brought to various sites such as the National Library, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Marina Barrage, and more. Through these visits, students will understand the importance of natural & resources conservation, and appreciate how our country, through various initiatives, has continuously contributed towards saving our Earth. They will acquire knowledge in carbon footprint, the importance of natural conservation, the Greenhouse effects & climate change, the different methods on saving energy and water, and the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Renew, Recycle).
LJ006 Be In Health
(Food & Nutrition)
Students will learn about healthy living, starting with healthy dining. They will visit food processing plants that produces healthier choice of food products, such as bread, eggs, organic and more; and how they are processed, packed and sold in the market. A visit to the Health Zone at the Health Promotion Board provides an interactive learning experience for the students on various healthy lifestyle topics.
